The Project: Enfield Council wanted to encourage cycling to improve public health and reduce congestion. The council successfully bid for Mayor of London funding to improve cycling infrastructure.
I lead a team that pitched and won the project to create a brand to get local residents to take up cycling, and in-turn improve health. Working with a team we devised a new visual identity, featuring a streamlined logo, green colour scheme and approachable and extensive use of illustration. We developed a clear overarching narrative about the Council’s ambitions – and how residents can help achieve them.
The brand was launched, with a user-friendly website, introductory videos, and promotional materials. As well as design, my team led the content strategy, making it easier to find information. The new site proved a major success, with over 76,000 page views in the first year. More than 2000 people took up the option of cycle training, and over 12,000 local schoolchildren benefited from the “Bike It Plus” programme. The biggest success has been securing the support of Enfield residents for the overall programme. A large-scale public consultation saw a majority of respondents back the Council’s proposals.
