I led the successful pitch for this project, including the tender and the pitch presentation at the IPO. The UK IPO is the government body responsible for intellectual property (IP) rights, including patents, designs, trademarks and copyright. One of its key roles is to educate children and young people about IP, and over the years it has developed numerous campaigns engaging budding inventors, artists and more. They wanted to create a new digital space to collate a number of varied and different teaching resources into one space for teachers and users alike.
There were many challenges, creating a space to work for diverse audiences, including teachers, students from (Key stage 1 through to University); designing and building a repository for existing campaign as well as the ability to add new materials. I worked closely with the team at IPO to create the IA (Information Architecture), and ensure the UX was seamless for all. To ensure the UX was the best it could be we employed user testing and usability through a specialist testing partner. As well as the front end, we used a recognised CMS, that was simple for the client to use to add new resources and campaigns as appropriate. The site also hosted a competition area where registered users can download resources or enter competitions.
